ATC Update - April, 2012

The Town of Middleton staff has been meeting over the past several months with Charles Gonzales, representative of American Transmission Company (ATC) regarding the proposed Badge-Coulee Transmission Line Project. The project area starts north of LaCrosse down into northern Dane County.  Most recently, staff met with ATC on March 22, 2012.  ATC has hosted one round of public informational meetings and another round of open houses will take place the end of April 2012.  An open house will take place at the Waunakee Village Center on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 from 1pm-7pm.  These open houses provides an opportunity for ATC to solicit public comment and feedback to help ATC identify potential corridors for the approximately 150-mile, 345-kolvolt line.  Currently, ATC has proposed two routes through the Town of Middleton: (1) extending north of the Cardinal Substation at Willow Lane to the intersection of Airport Road and Bronner Road (this route is currently where a 69-kilovolt transmission currently exists), and then following along Koch Road, and (2) extending west from the Cardinal Substation at Willow Lane along Highway 14 then headed north through the Towns of Cross Plains and Berry.

Staff will continue to monitor the development of this project closely and the Town plans to be an active participant in the docket when ATC files its application with the Wisconsin Public Service Commission, which is anticipated to be in 2013.
